The Final Engagement at Yankee Stadium

Yankee Stadium Engagement

Live at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, September 18, Bill Davis was announced as the grand prize winner of “The Final Engagement” contest sponsored by Hearts On Fire and retail partner Michael C. Fina. Then, as the last person in the current Stadium's history, Davis proposed live via the DiamondVision screen to his girlfriend of three years, Kate Cannon, a die-hard Yankee fan, with a $40,000 Hearts On Fire engagement ring.

After nearly 8,000 candidates registered, Davis was selected as the grand prize winner when his story of financial hardships resulting from his late wife's cancer treatment and care for his 15-year-old son with severe autism captured the hearts of the judges as well as Yankees star Mariano Rivera, who was spokesperson of the contest and offered him tips on married life.

"The whole experience was one of the best of my life” said Davis. “The proposal at the game was dream-like; the ring, flawless. The people at Michael C. Fina, Hearts On Fire, and the Yankees were warm and welcoming. Mariano was so kind and the consummate gentleman. We are thrilled, overjoyed and so thankful.”

"We are honored to have given this deserving fan the perfect proposal opportunity and the chance to be part of Yankee Stadium history,” said Steven Fina, Vice President of Michael C. Fina.

“This clearly represents a key milestone in the couple’s lives, and we are pleased to have Hearts On Fire be a part of that unforgettable experience,” said Mark Israel, President of Hearts On Fire.

Three runners-up were also awarded $2,500 toward an engagement ring or wedding band purchase made at Michael C. Fina and $2,500 toward any Hearts On Fire purchase.

For every contest registrant, Michael C. Fina and Hearts On Fire donated $1 to the Mariano Rivera Foundation, a nonprofit organization that benefits underprivileged children. In addition, 15% of all Hearts On Fire purchases made at Michael C. Fina through December 31, 2008, will also be donated to the Foundation.
